A very hungry…

Caterpillar

Jenny writes: Ambling across my path this morning was a Drinker Moth caterpillar (Euthrix potatoria). At around 6 cm long, the length of the palm of my hand, it was making its way towards the taller hedgerow grasses and safe shelter.

Drinker Moths are fluttering around in July and August, so my guess is that this caterpillar is off to munch some more grass and then pupate and emerge as a moth in around 4 weeks time. See a photo of both caterpillar and moth at https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife/how-identify/identify-caterpillars
